how can i persuade my parents to let me get a chinese water dragon?

im 13. i have all of the money for one but my parents wont let me get a cwd! they say i havent got enough space but i know that i have! any ideas on persuading my parents will be appreciated.

Don’t just bring one home… Then you’ll infuriate your parents and they may not accept it … making you take it back to the Pet Store (or you will have to go through the trouble of finding a new home for it).

When I was younger, I really really wanted pet rats, but my parents wouldn’t let me. So, I did this:
I built their cage, made a list of all supplies I’d need, calculated the cost of everything, calculated the continuing cost of upkeep and food, wrote my own caresheet to show my parents I knew how to care for the animal, typed up a weekly schedule I’d follow for care of my animals … then I printed everything off, put it into a presentation binder, set up the cage I’d built in the livingroom, and gave them a presentation. It shows that you’re responsible, that you’re taking this seriously, etc.

I do own a CWD, and I just want to make sure that you actually do have enough room for one. Females grow to be 2 ft long and males 3 ft long. They need a cage that is a MINIMUM of 4ftx2ftx4ft big, but almost all CWD owners say that a cage 5 or 6 feet long and 5 to 6 feet high is what is really needed. Water dragons need lots of space!!!

CWD’s also eat a ton. You’d need to feed it roaches, crickets, earthworms, and even pinky mice when it’s older. They have huge appetites, grow quickly, and will need lots of food, which gets very expensive very fast and creates a hassle when you have to visit the pet store every two days to buy food (unless you breed your own insects). You will also need to provide calcium supplements and vitamin supplements often.

Water will have to be changed almost everyday because CWD’s use their pond as a bathroom. They will require a temperature gradient, a basking spot, and a UVB light. (A UVB light is a must!!!)

CWD’s aren’t usually considered a good beginner lizard. However, despite the work and care you must put into your animal, CWD’s are amazing lizards and are so much fun!
